Democratic Statement
At Our Lady of the Nativity School, we realise the importance of the school in developing democratic ideals and principles. For democracy to thrive in the future, children must be taught democratic ideas and principles, as well as the significance of the democratic way of life. Our Lady of the Nativity School will explicitly and implicitly support and promote Australian democratic principles, including a commitment to:
- elected government
- the rule of law
- equal rights for all before the law
- freedom of religion
- freedom of speech and association
- the values of openness and tolerance.
Our Lady of the Nativity School will equip our children to be citizens who will protect and shape democracy in the future through our curriculum and extracurricular programmes. Democratic principles will be taught directly in the curriculum and implicitly through the child's school experience.
